A very dear friend of mine Lynn refers to herself and all her gal pals as Goddesses. Whenever she sends an email the salutation is always Hello Goddess. I always get a smile on my face when I see that email from her.  Now before you start getting all judgey let me share with you what her definition of a Goddess is.

“Many of you have heard or read of me calling myself or you a “Goddess”. I started doing this many years ago.

Definition: a female that’s beautiful, sexy, intelligent, smart, caring, and has a good heart. The Greeks called women Goddess as they were at an elevated level.

Today, being a Goddess means “…leading an authentic and honest life and empowering the feminine self.”

I fully believe that we are all Goddesses, some don’t know it yet. We generally don’t give ourselves enough credit or belief about ourselves. We are so much more and it’s OK to own that…not in a snobbish way, but a healthy and genuine way.

We need to CELEBRATE ourselves and other women. We are so much more than we think or see in the mirror!!!”

I have noticed in some of the retired women groups I am in there are women who just are not feeling great about themselves.  They feel invisible. I kind of was feeling that way last week. I didn’t have a full-on pity party; I was able to observe my feeling of lacking in self-worth and pull myself out of it.  What I have been doing is trying to come up with a way to help talk with other women who are feeling down on themselves or their life and give them uplifting and positive thoughts to ponder.

I subscribe to Margaret Manning’s in Sixty and Me Community  She shares daily articles about everything from fashion to healthy eating, to create a positive self-image, dealing with grief, just about any topic you can think of she has covered. One of today’s offerings was titled HOW TO EMBODY THESE 7 GODDESS ARCHETYPES FOR RADIANT AGEING! This article was written by one of her guest contributors Astrid Longhurst this definitely got my attention.  This was just what I had asked for!

In a nutshell here is what I took away from Astrid Longhurst’s article.

We all have inside of us these 7 Goddess Archetypes and we can draw upon the attributes of each one for whatever situation we are dealing with.

There is the Goddess/Mother who is full of wisdom and creativity and stories

The Enchantress/Lover seeks pleasure and finds Joy in life

The Wild Woman is fabulous and powerful and enjoys the freedom to dance through life

The Queen She loves who she is, and she is in control of her life

The Warrior is living in the now and speaks her truth

The Mystic/Visionary Has the deepest knowing of what life is

The Alchemist Turns dreams into reality

Okay now that I know who the Goddess’s are how can I incorporate their qualities into my life?

What wisdom can I share?  What gives me pleasure and joy RIGHT NOW? How can I express my inner Wild Woman?  What does my heart want me to follow? What is My Truth and how do I speak my truth? Have I created a vision of how I want my life to be?  What is my magic that only I can bring into the world?  These are some powerful questions to ask.  Kind of scary right?  But the answers can be very enlightening.

When we believe in ourselves and honor all the gifts we have to share we realize even though we are retired women of a certain age our worth to our family, our community, and the world is invaluable.  When we are feeling down on ourselves remember we are all Goddess’s the world needs us.  The Goddess in me sees the Goddess in you.
